For me, there is nothing better than walking into a hockey rink. I have always craved hockey. Being invested in hockey has kept me energized in life. I’ve been willing to sacrifice many things. Hockey has been a combination of intelligence, leadership and hard work. Over the years, hockey has forced me to improve on personal attributes. Missing more than the average amount of school to play hockey has taught me to develop time management skills, which translated into strong study habits. My priorities are school and hockey. Excelling in both, I have had to have good organizational skills. Hockey has become a lifestyle deeply rooted in me. TSN Saturday mornings with my dad to watch the highlights has been a ritual. I am self-motivated to become a better-skilled player. Most importantly, I conduct myself with honour and respect on and off the ice, knowing that the way I carry myself reflects my team, my coaches and the school I attend. This year, I started to help coach a local Bantam AA hockey team. I’ve enjoyed this new role as it has taught me a different look at the game. Instead of taking the advice I now have to give advice. I envision my university years to be a personal growth period. My goal is to explore a science major that will position me well for medical school. I consider myself to be a well-rounded athlete; playing golf, soccer, track and lacrosse. I believe that playing other sports in the off-season has increased my strength and skills for the hockey season. Hockey has created moments of success as well as moments of disappointments but I wouldn’t give it up. It’s the best life!
