My name is Kevin Jones, a goalie in the graduating class of 2022. I have been playing hockey for 13 years, and have been playing goalie for the past 10. Being undersized as a kid forced me to develop my skating to a level far beyond my age in order to compensate. This skill has vastly aided my game as I entered high school and began to grow. I entered high school at around 5 feet tall and was placed on the JV hockey team. Despite my size, I fought and helped my team to the JV State Championship game, earning team MVP. I was therefore placed on the Concord High Varsity team, which competes in the NHIAA Division 1 level, my sophomore year. That season I backed up our Senior goaltender. My Junior year, I grew into a starting role, facing some of my first quality Varsity minutes. I seized the opportunity sporting a 1.22 GAA, .920 SV%, an NHIAA D1 State Championship, and was also placed on Second Team All-State. I then followed that up during my senior season sporting a 1.00 GAA, .942 SV%, an NHIAA D1 State Championship, and received First Team All-State honors.
My aspirations are to continue to play at a highly competitive level of hockey, whether through the Junior or College path. Every year as I've grown older I have progressed my skill level, while simultaneously falling more and more in love with the sport. Following the best season of my career, I have never felt more confident and determined that I have both the drive and skill to play at the next level. I additionally stay academically on top of my class and am also in the National Honors Society.
I believe my love for the sport of hockey came from the work ethic I developed from my parents. The key to a great player is the ability to continuously work hard day in and day out during both practice (on and off the ice) and games, while also staying properly nourished and conditioned. This key is a staple that any of my coaches and teammates can attest to myself possessing. This passion and drive came from long car rides from practices and games with my dad where we talked about a variety of different aspects of my game, and where I needed to improve. Although I am extremely thankful for all of my coaches throughout the years, I dedicate my success to my dad who pushed me extremely hard over my hockey career. My dad passed away just a week after last year's championship, and I hope to continue to push on in his honor, as well as make it pro like he always told me I could. That is why I believe I can make the leap to the next level of hockey.
