Hi, my name is David-John May, but my teammates and coaches usually call me by my nickname DJ. I am a Junior at Burlington City High School in New Jersey, with a 4.1 weighted GPA and currently rank 8th in my class. In college I aspire to be a great student athlete while majoring in Actuarial Science.
I’ve played ice hockey since I was 4 years old and have played other sports like basketball and track and field. I’ve always had a true passion and love for hockey, and I’m very committed to what I do. Over the past 3 seasons in which I’ve played for my travel team, I’ve played in 205 games and missed only 2. Also for the last 2 seasons, my team won 1st place in the NJYHL, made one USA Nationals quarter-finals appearance, won two Atlantic District Championships, made another Atlantic District Championship appearance, and will be making another National Championships appearance.
As far as my personal accomplishments, I’ve played in two Tier 1 showcases in Chicago and the University of Notre Dame, I've played in the Chowder Cup Tournament in Boston, MA, and have also played in one EJEPL All-Star game. I have been a captain for 3 different seasons and have always supported my teammates in one way or another. Through the years I’ve learned so much, not only about the sport but also about life. One of my coaches always says, “Hockey is a life lesson”- this has helped me learn to realize how important and special the game is. I feel that I have the talent, skill, hockey sense, discipline and confidence to play college hockey at the highest level.
Looking forward to college, I plan to pursue a career as an Actuarial Analyst. I will work equally as hard to achieve my academic goals and my athletic goals. It is my hope to show you my outstanding character and leadership, along with my leadership and hockey skills. I can’t wait for all the new opportunities and challenges that await me.
