The people who influence are me are my Mom and Dad. They have always preached about how I need to be hardworking, a respectful person, and never to give up. My Mom would go to work at 6 A.M. and come home at 8 P.M. every day. When she got back, it was no different. She sat down at her desk and kept working. My dad, on the other hand, a lot more flexible hours; however, he had to travel a lot. He was flying to places like Texas or Maine for business projects. They both had one thing in common, which was to do whatever they can to provide for our family. With that being said, my parents are significant influences because of their endless hard work and love for me and my two siblings. When I finally became of age to comprehend and notice their hard work, I started looking at ways that I could apply that same skill. I became interested in ice hockey when I was three years old, I have seen it in person and on television, and I instantly fell in love with it. I heard stories of times when my dad played hockey, and I was very intrigued to learn more about this sport. I learned that with hard work and dedication, I could finish almost anything I put my mind too. My academic goals for high school are to get good grades and in return, hopefully, get the opportunity to play ice hockey for a division one college. An obstacle I had to overcome happened this past year. After eight years of playing as a forward, my coach for Philadelphia Hockey Club asked me to play defense. This was hard because everything I knew about being a forward I now had to change my approach to the game.
I was a defenseman now. I had to learn how to interpret the ice differently. When was it okay for me to jump into the play or should I stay back and defend the net. Although it took some time, I was able to become more comfortable with my new position, which only ended up helping me later make Glouster Catholic’s Varsity ice hockey team as a freshman. A few characteristics about me are I am a quiet leader who leads by example, I am a loyal person, and I am 100% a Boston Bruin fan.
