My family has a big part in my life. They are the ones that have gotten me into this amazing sport of hockey. My dad plays hockey. He stopped playing for a while but once my brother and I decided we wanted to play, he started playing again. He was also my coach ever other year when I was young and taught me about how great the sport of hockey is.
I started playing hockey on the worst team with a record of 0-19-1. From here there was only one way to go and that was up. I continued to play with a positive outlook and knew we would start winning. As a leader on the team, I helped turn the team around and we started winning more and more games. With my help, we went undefeated three years in a row. I have made it to playoffs but never won. This experience has created a drive in me. I am more determined to be the best that I can be and help lead a team to a state championship. This was evident in the playoffs with the Jersey Shore Whalers. The first game went into overtime and I had the game winning goal. I have brought this same attitude to my high school team. I play on a team that did not win any games in the past 3 years. Each game I came into the locker room thinking we would win. Within a few games, we had our first win. I knew having a positive outlook, never giving up and influencing my teammates that we can win, was a way to turn away the doubts. Unfortunately there were not enough players to have a high school team this year but I am hoping we will be back next year. This year I have joined the Jersey Shore Whalers 16uAAA. They are struggling with their record. I have joined the team mid season, after my NJYHL season. I continue to come in to the locker room with a positive attitude. Nov. 9, I played my first game with them and we won 1-0. It was the teams first win in 8 games. Joining challenging teams have made me a better person and player. When we give it our all and think positively, success is around the corner.
Academically I believe that working hard and being committed to success will help me achieve my goal of becoming a college graduate and playing hockey in school. I believe you should never give up, stay positive and continue to strive for success even when you are faced with challenges. It is important to see the benefits. My leadership in hockey goes hand and hand with my success in school. I am a hardworking, dedicated, fun loving athlete and student with great leadership abilities. I look forward to using these skills in my future.
