Personal Statement

Hockey is my favorite sport. Without it, I do not know where I would be today, and it makes me wonder now how different I would have been. It has been my identity since I was nine years old. College hockey is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and to be given the chance to play would mean everything to me.

I have learned to work no matter how hard the challenge is. I show this with my work ethic, which I feel is one of the key factors I have over many other recruits. Every step of the way, there are challenges, and being able to put time aside and set a plan is what makes it more achievable; I create plans ahead of time. With having to manage schoolwork and hockey, I find it important to set checkmarks and plan time accordingly so that I succeed in my goals. In the same way, I am dedicated and take initiative. For example, I try to finish my homework in school to have time to study and work on myself and my hockey craft at home. Along with that, I am also attentive and respectful; not just to my parents, but my coaches and teachers. They deserve respect for helping  toward my path to my future goals as kindness is a way to show appreciation.

I work day and night and do not stop until I have achieved what I want. I will know the results of my progress as it will show itself in my performance on the ice. To emphasize all this, I apply all of these elements of my work ethic in my sport, and they each take a crucial role in helping me develop on the ice. Learning new skills and improving existing skills to add to my repertoire is one of the biggest rewards of my determination.

My dedication does not imply apply to the ice. In terms of academics, I am currently enrolled in multiple Honors-level courses and am taking Geometry Honors & Accelerated as a freshman, a sophomore-level course. My work ethic does not stop at hockey but also carries into my daily life where I show what type of student I am in the classroom too. I averaged A’s most of my 8th-grade year and have kept mostly A’s in my middle school career in the highest Honor roll math course. I have a 3.85 unweighted and a 4.14 weighted Grade Point Average (GPA) in my first semester of high school.

Overall, I want to attend a college where I can work on my skills not only as a hockey player but as a student where I can pursue a degree of my choosing. I want to be able to compete to perform at the highest level so I will work as hard as required to not only become a good example, but to make to my friends, peers, parents, and coaches.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
