I've learned a lot about myself as I started looking at colleges. Academically speaking, my favorite subjects are Robotics and Engineering because of the way they make me think through a problem to find a solution. I appreciate there are multiple answers to a problem that might differ from someone else's. This approach helps me work to the best solution through trial and discovery.
I'm looking for a school that will challenge me academically, and when considering my future colleges, a strong Engineering program is where I have started my criteria. I took a class in my first year of High School called How Things Work, an intro to Engineering class. That class, I knew, completely changed my life and began my Engineering journey, specifically Mechanical Engineering. I'm looking for a college on the smaller side. I'm looking for a school that allows me to be a class contributor and grow relationships with professors and peers.
Ideally, I would love to continue my love of hockey in college, even at the Club level.
Later than most, I started my love for hockey at a "Rangers Learn to Skate" day at a local rink. I played multiple sports then and was working toward a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. After getting my black belt at 11, I realized I had to choose and focus on one sport and school. I decided to pursue only hockey to devote as much time as I could to hockey and my education. I currently have a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.8 and a 1300 SAT score.
I am a Varsity defenseman, and it's a position I have worked very hard to be the best player I can be. I also skate as a forward if needed to support my team. When I think about hockey, one of my favorite things is team camaraderie. The bonds you make with your teammates are crucial to the team's success and help drive you as an individual player. I think of the movie Miracle, "when you pull on that jersey, the name on the front is a hell of a lot more important than the one on the back.". I switched to a new team for my first year of Bantam. A few months into the season, the tendon in my left foot was severed by a skate during a locker room fight between our two goalies. Had our team had a stronger connection and worked better together, the fight and, subsequently, my injury would not have happened. The following season, I used my experience to step up as a second-year leader to set a good example. I try to diffuse any disagreement reminding people we are a team and need to act like one; When a team thinks of themselves as a whole and not as individuals, they can anticipate, react and work as one. This is how I try to focus my play; I focus on how my play benefits the team; where I need to be for a play, how I have to position for my teammate, how I open up, clear a puck or put the puck on the net for a teammate - "the name on the front is more important.".
Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile, and I hope we have the opportunity to connect and discuss your school and program.
