My goal throughout high school is to continue as a multisport athlete playing hockey, baseball, and golf while maintaining excellence in my academics. Early on from the age of 3 years, I played multiple sports including hockey, soccer, basketball, and baseball. My parents are athletes as well, my mother played softball in college, and my father played multiple sports including baseball, basketball, soccer, and hockey while in high school. Their athletic drive set the foundation for me as an athlete. As I begin to look at colleges and sports programs, it is important for me to find a college where I can focus on sports medicine and my desire to have a long-term career in sports.
At the start of my freshman season, I was injured with a broken collarbone that put me out for 12 weeks. This has been my greatest challenge while playing hockey. Physically, the healing was easy, but it was difficult to not play the sport you love, and I definitely struggled with it this season. I started the season strong and worked hard to close out just as strong post-recovery.
Over the years I experienced a range of coaching styles and teammate diversity. This experience allowed me to better understand the type of athlete I am and what coaching styles best support my growth. I am hard on myself, so having a coach that will push me, yet understand the balance of letting me work through my own challenges is important. As my TAP results show, I am a Musketeer. I am a very respectable athlete, student, friend, son, brother, and man. I strive to be a solid, hardworking athlete while supporting my teammates. A weakness listed for a musketeer is not being focused on winning; however, this is not the case for me. While I do have a good sense of team unity, I am very competitive and push myself and my linemates to win. I want to play for a coach and team that will challenge me to continue to build and sharpen my hockey skills.
It has been 11 years since I started playing hockey. In my first seven years, I equally served as a goalie and forward. Playing a goalie for that many years while being a forward allowed me to build a better understanding of the game and increase my hockey IQ. I am very keyed in on plays, positioning, and the flow of the game. As I grew in my hockey career, I realized I had more of a passion for being a forward. I have solid stick handling skills and an excellent shot and felt these skills out weighted those of my goalie skills. Now I serve as a left wing and look forward to continuing this role for the right team.
