Hockey has been my passion for as long as I can remember. At the early age of five years old, many elements of the game quickly led to my dream of playing at the collegiate level. The feeling of success after a win and the drive to get back on the ice after a tough loss with more determination has taught me to be mentally prepared for any outcome. Adversity hasn’t been an easy situation to gain control of, but through many setbacks, I have learned to be prepared to face adversity right in the face, put the challenge behind me, push through with determination, and stay disciplined. Becoming disciplined through sports has taught me the worth of accountability, respect, self-control, and perseverance. Applying these skills has led me to stay focused under pressure and to have confidence in my abilities.
I contribute my work ethic and academic success to the same skills that I have learned during the game. I am punctual, coachable, unselfish, and open-minded; all of these skills have provided me with an opportunity to succeed in the classroom. I believe my willingness to lead by example is what sets me apart from other athletes, and why I have been selected as an assistant captain for multiple teams and years. I value team camaraderie and will put forth my best efforts to encourage a sense of belonging. I appreciate the strong bonds I have built throughout the years; the off-ice relationships have ultimately led to more success on the ice.
Through the years, I have met and played for many coaches who have and still influence my life in the off-season. These influential figures have helped me create many healthy habits, both physically and spiritually, that are needed for personal growth.
Mentally, I am prepared to attend a college where I can succeed both academically and athletically. I am willing to push myself to continue to play the sport that I love. I desire to play at the highest level of competition, yet I am keeping all of my options open. I am confident that I can find a college that matches my abilities and provides me with an opportunity to be a role model for the youth in my area.
