Personal Statement

My name is Kyle Laughlin. I am a junior at Springfield High School in Springfield, PA 19064. I am 6'2" and 180lbs.
Accomplishments that are very important to me are my sophmore year I received All-Delco honorable mention for defense and this year I received First team All-Delco for defense and the All-Tournament team at the Flyers Cup Tournament. I was also chosen to play in my leagues All-Star game. My High School team won the Flyer Cup Championship but lost in the State Championship. I have been playing Ice Hockey for 10, almost 11, years and have played for the Delco Phantoms, Haverford Hawks, West Chester Quakers, The Sting (independent team), and the American Icebirds (summer travel team). I was asked to play Junior A next year for my senior year for the Junior Flyers but due to money issues and me wanting to be able to finish high school with my high school team, I did not get the opportunity.
I feel that I can handle a large amount of responsibility because of the fact that hockey is the only sport I love and I do what ever it takes to win a game. I work hard in practice to up my level of play and it showed this year when I received a challenge from my coach to get faster and to work on my shot and it payed off in the end. I try to help my team in any way to accomplish our goals we state before the season. Our goal was to win the Flyers Cup and I feel I worked hard enough to help us get there. I know that I do not put up a lot of points, but that is the least of my problems. My goal when I get out on the ice is to give it 110% and to have as much positive impact to my team as I can. I am willing to except any challenge that I face even if it means I have to go up against the best player in the area.
I want to be able to play at a competitive level after high school and I honestly will do everything it takes to put myself in position to be noticed. I work out on my own and with the other teams I play for to make sure that I am always in shape and ready to play at a higher level. I move up to Midget U18 this year and hope to keep moving from there.
College hockey is something I have dreamed up playing since I first started playing. I watch the NCAA tournament every year because I think that it is the best hockey to watch, even over watching the NHL. I know that I can play at a high level but in order for me to get looked at by even Division III schools, I have to step up my game and get bigger in size as well. I am looking to go to a Division level school and it does not matter on the size of it. I would like to go up north to college because that is where most known hockey schools are such as New Hampshire, Maine, Michigan, Michigan State, North Dakota, Miami University of Ohio, etc. are located. I want to be in an area that has a hockey feeling to it like cool weather.
My family has small money issues which was part of the reason as to why  I could not play at a higher level right now. To me though, playing for two competitive teams is good enough for me because I still get to play at a high level and I am always on the ice. Last year I was playing up to 6 days a week and it did not bother me at all. It is a dream to play in the Junior level but money is an issue with that.
I have about 3 majors that I am interested in. They are Sport Management, Sports Studies, and Kinesiology. I know that school comes first so when I am looking at colleges, I first look to see if they have my major.
If i get the opportunity to play at the college level, I hope to be able to play a decent amount of time my freshman year and have an impact on the team whether it being small or big. My main goal is to just play at the highest competitive level possible and to have some sort of a responsibility.
