Hello! My name is Katie Letcher and I am a class of 2022 setter at Springfield High School, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. I would love the opportunity to continue my volleyball career at the collegiate level, and I am excited to take this next step. I believe I would be an asset to a college team for a variety of reasons. First, I believe I have a high volleyball IQ. I have been playing this sport since fifth grade. I know the game and I know how to read the court. I once had a coach tell me at club tryouts that she chose me because I didn't always pick the easy sets, I picked the sets with the best strategy. I also think my leadership skills are an asset, both on and off the court. Off the court, I am an honors student involved in many different clubs, and I coach a young CYO volleyball team. On the court, I have been chosen to be captain on various teams. As a setter, I feel it is my job to keep my teammates motivated, positive, and focused no matter what the score is. I am also driven, I go above and beyond, attending optional practices and training. I seek out my coaches to find out what I can do to be better, and follow through during team and independent workouts. I think my coaches would agree that I am a very coachable athlete and that I will go above and beyond in order to excel. With each year I play the sport, my excitement for volleyball grows.
I pride myself on being a well-rounded student athlete. While volleyball is my passion, I also swim for my high school and on a club team. In addition, I am involved in numerous clubs in school, including Hi-Q, Community Service, orchestra, choir, and the National Honors Society. I also am a team leader for the Steve Stefani Dance Marathon at my high school, an annual tradition modeled after Penn State Thon to raise money for pediatric cancer. Outside of school, I have also started my own business, creating posters and embroidered apparel in my Etsy shop. During this time of the COVID pandemic, I have also taught myself how to crochet and play the electric guitar. Being involved in these things has taught me how to manage my time, and ultimately the value of hard work.
As I am getting ready to enter my senior year, I am excited to see what the future holds!
