Hello, My name is Steven. I was a late starter into the world of hockey. I fell in love with ice hockey and I taught myself to skate during a cold spell in February of 2022. I knew I wanted to be goalie from the beginning. Once I learned to skate I reached out to the Reading Royals Director of Youth Hockey and he brought me in for an evaluation and then gave me some goalie gear. I was hooked!
I played in the Royals youth program for spring/summer in house league and then I was assigned my own team for the in-house fall winter league, where my team won the championship and I was MVP for the game. It was a year of growing and learning and I loved every minute of it. I continue to help out with the learn to play programs and clinics, when I am available.
In April of 2023 I tried out for the Palmyra Black Knights tier II travel team. I was assigned to the 18uA partial season team as their only goalie, even though I was old enough to be on the 16u team. I have grown so much this past season playing against 18u travel teams. I worked so hard this season, even had a 1000 save season! I was a walk on for my high school varsity team this year and I won the starting goalie job, against 2 other goalies. I have had many ups and downs, but I have handled the high points as well as the low points with a level head and calmness that we all need to maintain to be good teammates and athletes on and off the ice.
In October I applied for, tested, and passed my 3rd degree blackbelt in TaeKwonDo. I have developed discipline, focus, and and a diligent work ethic, through years of training in taekwondo and it has helped me in my training as a goalie. Through my training as a championship sparrer in taekwondo I learned to quickly adapt to many new and rapidly changing situations. I also pick up new skills quickly. I have developed the ability to be easily coached and my coaches and taekwondo instructors have commented how coachable I am. I raise purebred Hampshire sheep on our family's small farm. I have learned responsibility through years of raising animals and showing them at the local and state levels in 4H. I would love to pursue a degree in animal science or engineering to continue to work with animals and develop new technology to make the future better for everyone, including animals.
I know I want to continue to play ice hockey in college and possibly professionally. I am eager to seek out new challenges and grow as a goalie. I can't wait to prove how much of an asset I can be to any team I am a part of both on and off the ice.
