Personal Statement

My name is Sam Haynes, I am the youngest of 5 children in my blended family. I attend one of the highest ranked High Schools in the United States. I found a love for hockey in early middle school and decided I wanted to play. I enjoy hanging out and playing with my teammates and they are truly a second family to me. The  competition for me is a big part of why I wanted to play a sport and why I chose to play hockey. I am not afraid of hard work in the classroom as well as on the Ice. I started skating and playing Hockey in 7th grade and in 8th grade I was the varsity goalie on a young high school team. I was awarded the Champion of Character award for never giving up in games even if things weren't playing out well and I always competed until the game was over. I have gone from a beginner on a not so good team to the Texas High School goalie of the year and Division Champions in three seasons. I am playing travel hockey as well. I am the starting goalie on the Texas Warriors 18UAA,in the DSTHL, we are also playing in the ECEL AAA league. My  team is ranked in the top 20 in the nation,  my goal is to  win national championships with both teams as well as learn and improve along the way.

I love fishing and scuba diving, I am a certified PADI diver and have my captains license. I work in my families real estate development business when I am not in school or on the ice. I plan on getting a business degree and would love to own my own business one day. My goals are simple, to do my best every day in whatever I do.  As a goalie I can't control all of the game, and I can't undo what has been done, but I can control my mentality and how I focus on the next shot and not what has happened in the past.

I have good grades and have learned over the years how to  study and budget  the time I have away from the rink, I see myself as a responsible person who can make the right decisions and help others so the same, I am driven to succeed, I am low maintenance and love hearing input from coaches on how I can be better and improve on my game. I would love the chance to attend and graduate from a great College and play College hockey.
