I am the player I am because I come from a military family. My grandpa, who passed from cancer in 2017, changed how I looked at life. He taught me how to love passionately, work hard, and live every moment to it’s fullest. He reminded me to never stop believing in myself, to always work just a little bit harder, because when you work harder you are making someone else work to your level and then you raise your bar to help them work harder too. I became interested in hockey, when my family moved to TX and went to my first ever hockey game, from that night I was hooked, I wanted to learn to skate, learn to play, and do what those players did. I started doing practices 2-3x a week with my team as a player, then staying an extra hour 1-2x a week to learn Goalie fundamentals. After that season ended, I fully converted to Goalie. With hockey, I learned that I am more competitive than I might have previously described myself. I try to keep the game fun. On days that end in an L, it’s not that we didn’t play well; it’s just a tool for us to learn from & make ourselves better.
My academic goals for high school is to graduate in the top 10% of my class, with all A’s. I am a dual enrolled student, so I spend a portion of my days away from my high school at a college campus. I am working on graduating high school with my Associates Degree. After high school I would like to pursue animal medicine to earn my doctorate and maybe one day have my own practice. In this sport, I have had to overcome the criticisms of “coming late to the game.” As a goalie, I have love and passion for the game and my team, especially my coaches; we can do great things together. I would say coming from a military family, I am able to quickly adapt and make new friends wherever I go. My teams (Houston Hurricanes & TX Jr Stars) & coaches have helped me with winning the Regional Silversticks Championship, playing in different markets, and understanding what it means to be coachable. Although, my position is not a C or A position, I have the ability to be strong leader to raise my team’s spirits whether on the ice or off.
