Being a student-athlete has taught me many valuable life lessons, such as time management. I have played lacrosse since second grade, but every year, the amount of time I spend to perfect my craft increases. Simultaneously, the number of hours spent doing schoolwork also constantly elevates. This has been especially true since I aim to maintain a high academic standard by taking a rigorous course load consisting of all honors classes, a robotic engineering elective, and learning a second language. I believe that my ability to manage my time well will ultimately benefit me not just during my college experience, but for the rest of my life.
Lacrosse has also helped teach me the importance of teamwork. One of my favorite aspects of lacrosse is that all ten players need to excel at their individual positions in order for the team to succeed. It takes communication, collaboration, and hours of dedication in practice for all players to be on the same page. While an individual can make the game winning shot, it takes the whole team to reach that point. Every save the goalie made, every caused turnover by the defense, and all of the other goals might be forgotten, but every single player had an impact on the outcome of the game. This lesson is also not only applicable to lacrosse. It is also useful in everyday, real-life situations. For example, in a job I am going to have to collaborate with colleagues to reach goals or meet deadlines.
