Coach,
I'd like to introduce myself, my name is Koen Block and I am looking to tell you more about why you want me on your squad for 2023! I love the game of lacrosse because it's so fast and fun! I have been playing the game since 4 years old when I joined my first box lacrosse team and haven't looked back from those early years of scoop, pass and shoot, to today where I continue to chase my dreams of playing university and professional lacrosse.
Growing up in one of Canada's hot beds of lacrosse, Victoria, B.C. I have had the opportunity to play both box and field lacrosse, learning how to use my lacrosse IQ, speed, soft hands and physicality to excel at the box lacrosse game and adapting those skills to the field game, developing 2 fluid hands, dodging & shooting on the run and building my overall athleticism to excel on the field.
I can't wait to connect with you to talk about my strengths as a player and the contributions I can make to your team on and off the field. I live for lacrosse, I play 5 days a week at the Royal Bay Lacrosse Academy with travel tournaments upcoming for my high school team and on the weekend, I play club field lacrosse with the Victoria Titans. I am a quality person with leadership skills and strong character that I have built up over the past 12 years learning the game from a variety of top development coaches to NLL Head coaches and players.
My lacrosse resume has highlights both on a personal level as well as team awards. At the national and international level, I have been playing for Team B.C. (provincial all star team selected by the British Columbia Lacrosse Association) since I was 11 years old (Team BC Field U-13 competed at the San Diego Adrenaline Tourney - January 2016 - lead the team with 16 goals in the tourney) to present day where I just recently competed with Team BC at the Canadian Field Lacrosse Nationals (September 2019), winning silver and I was named Game MVP in the National Final with 2 goals and an assist for Team B.C.
My TEAM B.C. resume is as follows:
2015-16 U-13 Field Lacrosse (Top Scorer/Head Coach Daren Fridge) and we won the San Diego Adrenaline Tourney.
2016 Peewee Box Lacrosse National Championships (Team: Silver Medal, Top 3 scorer on team, Assistant Captain Head Coach - Curt Malawsky)
2017 Team BC Field Lacrosse ( top 3 scorer on the team, Team Captain, Coach Steve McKinlay)
2017 Bantam Box Lacrosse Nationals (Team: Silver, one of only 2 first year players to make the team, finished in the top 20 scorers for the tourney - Head Coach Daren Fridge)
2018-19 U-15 Team BC Field Lacrosse Team (Silver: U-15 Canadian Field Lacrosse Championships, National Final Game MVP), Team B.C.
2018 Bantam Box Lacrosse National Championships: (Team Silver, Team Assistant Captain, Top 4 scorer - Coach Curt Malawsky).
At the provincial level, I play club box lacrosse for the Juan De Fuca Whalers (JDF) where for the past 2 years we have dominated provincial play. In the 2017/18 box season, my final season in Bantam Lacrosse (13/14 years old) our team won the Island Championships and then went on to win the provincial title at the B.C. Box Lacrosse Provincial Championships in July 2018.
On a personal note: I was team captain and the top scorer for JDF with 15 goals and 14 assists in the provincial tourney and was named the Tournament MVP for the Provincial Championships. Just this past summer, in July 2019, playing as a first year player on the JDF Midget team (15/16 years old), we went on to win the Provincial title, and I was a starter at even-strength and on the power play with 2 goals and 8 assists in provincial Championship tourney.
At the club field lacrosse level, I play for the U-15 Victoria Titans. We have just begun our season and I am leading the team as Captain and top scorer, I have 28 goals and 22 assists in our first 9 games of the season.
As part of Team BC U-15, we recently (November 9/10, 2019 ) competed at the FLG in 3D Fall Shootout Tourney in Dover, Delaware, where the team went 6-0 in the 2022/23 division. I was Team BC's leading scorer for the tourney with 13 goals and 9 assists over the 6 game tourney.
I am watching video and training every day to reach my goals of playing university/college level lacrosse. I bring leadership and strong character along with offensive touch and great lacrosse IQ to every team I get the chance to play with. I am working hard at school to keep my grades where they need to be for me to be competitive not just on the field but in the classroom as well. I am looking forward to the opportunity to meet you and show you my skills and love for the game.
Catch me on the field or in person... Koen Block is ready, willing and able to bring a winning attitude with top notch skills to your team and have a ton of fun while we do it!!
