Hello,
My name is Oscar Hertz and I am a dual citizen of the US and Denmark. I was born in Denmark but moved to the US when I was 5, and in addition to going back each summer, I returned to Denmark for one year in 8th grade. Having experienced multiple cultures -through schools, sports and friends - has given me a perspective that is somewhat unique and has been a great asset for me. I am very comfortable in my own skin, and with those around me whatever their backgrounds may be.
I grew up with hockey as my main sport and started skating at age 4. Through ice hockey I had some great experiences, like billeting in Quebec in 2013 for the International Quebec Pee-Wee tournament (big tournament in ice hockey) and making the Danish U15 Ice Hockey National Development Team in 8th grade. In 4th grade I started lacrosse and played both sports for a long time. The summer before moving back to Denmark I was selected for the San Diego Lax All-Stars and played in youth tournament in Denver during the World Championships. I really enjoyed watching the national teams play. Returning to the US for 9th grade, I decided to focus solely on lacrosse and was fortunate to be a freshman starter for The Bishops School varsity lax team (ranked #4 in San Diego open division). Recently, I was invited to play for the Danish National Lacrosse Team and am really looking forward to the 2018 World Championships.
Academics are important to me, and The Bishop's School is considered to be one of the most academic schools in Southern California and is ranked in the Top 10 private high schools in CA, and recently was ranked #26 in the nation. I work as hard in the classroom as I do on the field, and my goals for college are as much academic as athletic. I am still undecided about a major for college, but I enjoy the sciences, economics, english and sports medicine. Academically, I want to attend a college that will prepare me well for life and career after college. Athletically, I want to play at the highest level possible where I can contribute to my team's success.
