I first started playing lacrosse for my local club team in fifth grade. Once I realized that there were opportunities to play year round and in many tournaments across the country, I began doing so. One of the downsides to living in a small population area of a larger rural region, is the distance that I would need to travel to get to practices. In order for me to make the one day per week practices I would need to drive four hours to practice, have a two hour practice, and then drive four hours home and get ready for school the next day. It quickly spread throughout my team how far I had to commute for practice, and there was almost never a practice that could go by without a teammate asking, "wait, how long is the drive?", or, "why do you even come to these practices anyway?" And I'd always thought that second question was a terrible one, because why would I miss it, I chose to be on this team as did everyone else, so what gives me the right to miss practice just because of where I live? From nearly every coach I've had, I've heard the same thing, "wow, that really shows dedication", and that is one of the things I have really taken to heart with my play and with my outlook on the game. But my one question has always remained, wouldn't anyone do that to play the game that they love?
