For the majority of my lacrosse career, I have been one of the higher skilled players on my high school team, that has found it necessary to bring newer players onto the team to keep the program growing in our area. Though this has given me the opportunity to mentor newer players and take on a leadership role, it has made improving my own game more difficult. Looking for an opportunity to gain more skills, I joined a higher level travel team, the LA Mavs run by All American coach and former Syracuse Lacrosse player, Sean Lindsay. I found myself as a more average player in comparison to others on the team. This gave me an opportunity to watch and learn not only from a highly skilled coach, but from the All-American players on my team, making me a more well rounded player. Together we traveled to the University of North Carolina to compete in and win the Tar Heels summer showcase tournament.
This experience, along with some others in my personal life have taught me the importance of mental strength and perseverance. For example, I have watched my father battle cancer twice now in the past 6 years. Seeing him fight for his life while continuing to work and provide for my family has made me work hard on and off the field, as well as in the weight room and in the classroom. Lacrosse has been a passion of mine since the first time I picked up a stick. I’ve learned how a brotherhood comes hand in hand with being a team player. I am looking to continue my studies in order to achieve my ultimate goal of becoming a firefighter, and continue to work alongside my new team.
