To my future coach,
Let's start with the non-lax stuff. I currently have a 3.7 going into my senior year. I will also be attaining my Eagle rank within the next two months as I finish my Eagle project and final merit badge. For college, I am looking for something in Sports Management/Business Management. In addition to school, sports and scouts I also work part-time at Dicks Sporting Goods. In my free time I golf and scuba dive.
So let's talk lacrosse. I am a team player. A lot of kids say that so let me tell you why I think I am. When I first started playing lacrosse 10 years ago, the coach said we needed a goalie so I stepped up. Once everyone saw what happens to a goalie, no one ever volunteered again except me. So every year they ask and every year I answer ‘yes’. A few years it would happen that I would play with a goalie that was a year older than me and those years I could also play defense. That happened two or three times until he moved to a different school my Freshmen year. Since then, it has only been me and still I step into that goal and do what the team needs me to do - in every quarter in every game in every year.
I never had any real coaching as a goalie - there just are not enough coaches at the lower levels with experience to help out with that, so I went and found Bill Pilat's The Goalie School and attended that a couple of years to improve my game which definitely helped me with my fundamentals.
When the coach has pre-season lift sessions or conditioning I am there doing what needs to be done and helping to motivate the team which is part of the reason I was made a co-captain in my junior year. I show up with a good attitude to practice and give 100% on the field. I talk to the coach about what is bothering the players and I talk to the players about what is bother the coach so that we can all try to have a better season.
Our seasons have not been easy – we are a young team, with young coaches, lots of turnover and more new players than experienced players. It would be easy to just give it all up but I love the game too much for that.
Hopefully this gives you some idea of what I am like, both on and off the field. I would love an opportunity to be part of a great program and to help make it better.
