With a grandfather that was an All American Lacrosse player at Dartmouth, who faced off against Jim Brown, and a father who also played at Dartmouth, lacrosse was a word I learned at a very early age. I started playing officially in 2ndgrade, and haven’t stopped. I have learned that commitment to excellence is paramount. I work hard, I practice hard, and I play where I am needed - and always strive to give every opportunity my best shot. I am also so sensitive to the importance of sportsmanship – treating not only my teammates and coaches with a great deal of respect, but also my opponents and our referees. And I understand the importance of the little things, and how the little things make a big difference, like staying behind after practice, to make sure that all the equipment is put away and stored, that all is back in order. And of course, offering rides to classmates who live downtown and are waiting for the bus.
Many of my teammates never played lacrosse until freshmen year; in fact, many probably never heard of it. While that fact raises the bar by which those of us who are experienced need to play, it gives me a different set of challenges. How do we do our best when we’re playing the powerhouses of Fairfield County? We need an even greater sense of teamwork, and we need to maintain our positivity. Ultimate success is driven by that perfect blend of mental toughness, but a lot of heart too – and that’s what I work hard for everyday.
