I am looking forward to college and playing lacrosse in college. I became interested in lacrosse when my travel hockey coach suggested playing lacrosse at the end of the season. He explained that lacrosse was a great crossover sport to hockey. I have learned that I enjoy being an athlete and learning everything I can about the sports I play. I enjoy being pushed to be my very best and find that the more competitive the team the more I enjoy it. My father, who is now deceased, was very involved in sports. He was very competitive and was always in the the best physical shape. He worked out every day, He only ate well balanced meals and he shared with me the importance of health, commitment and being dependable. My father was a great role model.
I am interested in applying to a college that will allow me work towards a career in healthcare or sports therapy. I have not decided on the exact path I will take but I hope to begin with a degree in science or possibly exercise science. I have had to overcome multiple tragedies like loosing my dad when I was 8 and my grandmother, who helped to care for me while my parents worked, at 9 years of age. My mother worked in healthcare and went on to continue her education in order to support our family. Several years after my dad had died my mother met a man that she was going to marry. He was like a father to me. When I started middle school my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and was put on disability. When I was a sophomore in high school my mothers fiancé died in his sleep from a heart attack. Through all of this I have learned that I am a strong person. I can work through anything and keep a positive attitude. I have also learned that taking care of others and helping them stay healthy and physically fit has become a passion of mine. I also enjoy helping others be the best they can be. I currently work in an assisted care living facility while attending school and participating in sports. I have played travel hockey since I was 8 years old and I have been playing lacrosse for the last 5 years. I have played multiple positions in both lacrosse and hockey but my primary position in both is defense. I am a team player who enjoys motivating my teammates. I play hard every game and enjoy the physical aspect of the games as well as meeting new people and coaches. I spend my free time reading and researching the games in order to improve my own skills. I strive to be the best and put in the work to improve my game every time I play. I was voted team captain for my high school hockey team. This was my junior year and I was new to the school this year. I spend much of my time talking with teammates, encouraging positive behaviors and giving support and encouragement to the entire team. I have enjoyed being a leader and setting an example for my team mates. I have learned so much from being on different teams and playing at different levels. I also have had the privilege of learning from many different types of coaches. I have always played on competitive travel teams as well as club and high school teams. There is always something to be learned at each level.
I am looking for a program that will be a good fit for me both academically and athletically. I think my experience, my leadership skills, my personality and my dedication will be an asset to your program. I know that I have what it takes to make a difference and be a leader for your team.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I look forward to college and reaching out to the schools I am interested in soon.
