My name is CJ Howland, I live in Rowley, Massachusetts and play for Triton High School. I have been playing lacrosse for ten years, since I was seven years old and I have loved it ever since. Lacrosse was the first ever sport that I had stayed with growing up and I don't regret a second. I realized that after High School I wanted to continue to play and at a higher level to grow my game even more.
Growing up I have always been a bigger kid who was a little overweight, but that never stopped me from competing at the highest level I could. I learned how to use my body to create space from defenders or when dodging I could out muscle anyone stopping me from the cage. Since I wasn't the fastest player, I was always looking for my teammates cutting or moving myself to get them open for a shot or scoring opportunity.
Over the pandemic and not being able to leave my house, I became determined to better myself and grow my game by losing seventy pounds. I started by running a mile everyday while eating smaller portions and paying more attention to the amount of calories I consumed. As I started to lose fat in my stomach and legs an even my face, I started to lift weights so I could not only lose fat but gain muscle at the same time. Now down all that weight, I will be a scary player when I get back on the field being twice as fast as before adding onto the ability to find my open teammates and creating space with my body. I will be able to use my exceptional stick skills to put some goals in the cage and find open teammates for open looks.
When in school I struggled a little with myself and getting to school during freshman and sophomore year. However, since then I have really grown as a student and a person. At the beginning of my junior year I suffered a concussion in a hockey game and was out of sports and class for a month. Once I was back on my feet after the concussion I applied myself more, worked harder than ever before, and even cut my absences in half aside from the concussion. I had seen a drastic change in my grades as well over the course of my junior year raising every class almost a full letter grade. As we left school and continued it online, I faced a little problem in showing how I could improv my academics by learning online with such a short time to plan. Going into my senior year I see nothing but hard work and studying in the future as I am doing all I can to show everyone how good of a student I really can be and I can only see it going up from here.
