Michael McGovern Jr. '21 Recruiting Profile

My name is Michael McGovern and I'm a rising Senior Goalie. Off of the field, I am a good student, earning mostly As and Bs. I currently have an interest in majoring in criminal justice.  I have been playing lacrosse for 9 years now and I was introduced to it by my father at a young age.  Since he was a goalie as well when he played, I had a head start in learning the basics and advanced techniques of being a goalie.  While in the past, I have been on some struggling and weaker teams, however, with every shot I knew it was helping me grow as a person and a goalie. I'm not the type of player to sit around expecting to get better; I am always striving for improvement-  by practicing hard with the team and on my own.  I also have weekly individual sessions with a goalie coach.  I believe that my hard work and dedication will help me to reach the next level!

I am the Varsity  starting Goalie.    I consider myself to be a good teammate and since lacrosse is a team sport, I will support and encourage teammates no matter what happens.  Any suggestions that I may find to help my teammates with anything that they might be struggling with both on and off the field.  If they are struggling with something,  I will try to help them  so that the team as a whole will continue to improve and make us a team to be afraid of. I will also accept any criticisms that any coaches or players have and try to apply those corrections quickly so that I can also further improve.   

Due to the COVID-19 situation, my season was canceled last Spring.  During the downtime, I am working out and practicing every day.  I am also working with my HS coach in viewing film from past seasons on Hudl, to work on my LAX IQ and to find ways to improve while the team is not able to practice.  I had volunteered to be an assistant  goalie coach for our town's youth LAX program this season.  I hope to be working with the youth program and my team again soon.
