I am often asked why would anyone want to play Goalie? Why do I agree to stand small box with minimal equipment and allow lax players to pelt me with lacrosse balls so fast and hard you can play connect the bruise dots after the game? I say every bruise is a goal stopped. I play lacrosse for the love of the game and to be part of a team.
As a child I began my sports career through t-ball and little league. I found myself to be so bored on the field doing nothing the majority of the time. Lacrosse began in my home town the year I entered kindergarten. I fell in love with the game the day I picked up my first stick and have played ever since. Lacrosse is action packed and filled strategic planning and excitement.
Freshman year I had the opportunity to play on the JV Team. I practiced with the Varsity Team and suited up for all of the Varsity Games. While I did not play Varsity my first year I learned so much at the Varsity practices, improved my stick skills, speed and the agility I would need to achieve success in future seasons.
Over the past three years our HS Lacrosse Team has participated together through indoor Winter Clubs and Summer Camps to maintain and keep our team skills strong, learn new skills while we worked hard to find ways to improve player communication on and off the field.
Over the last twelve years playing Goalie I have learned to adjust my tone to provide constructive feedback and positive reinforcement to each player. I strive to improve my strength and skill level at every practice and every game by listening to my Coach's constructive feedback and adapting my level of play to meet the needs of the players on the field.
As the Varsity Goalie for the Westwood Cardinal Lacrosse Team I watch from a unique vantage point as the game unfolds in front of me, understand each play, anticipate positional adjustments and lead by articulating clear and concise directions to my teammates throughout the progression of the game. I hope to have the opportunity to advance my skills and be part of a lacrosse team at a college or university in the Fall of 2021.
