With two older brothers, it was not uncommon for me to follow in their footsteps and try whatever I saw them doing. Thus, when my oldest brother started playing lacrosse, I knew I wanted to be out on the field right next to him. However, I did not know that I would develop a passion for the game and a lifestyle that revolves around me bettering myself as a player.
I first started playing lacrosse in seventh grade. It was a newer sport to the area in which I live so I really did not know what I was getting myself into. After realizing it was much harder than it looked, I took time out of each day to work on basic drills with my older brother who had been playing for much longer than I have. I continued to work and improve in my areas of weakness in an effort to prove that I was valuable to the team.
I went on to finish the season and played again in eighth grade as well. The difference this year though was that I already found my footing for the game. I knew how to play and what worked best for me. Before the season officially started, I knew this was going to be the year to prove that I did not need my brother on the team to be a valuable asset. I trained all of the off season as I was determined to start during the season. Although this is only a minor goal I was able to accomplish, I believe it is important to set goals because then you always have something to work towards.
I went on to start throughout the entire season and helped my team win a number of games. It was at this time that I knew I wanted to pursue lacrosse throughout high school as well. During the Summer of Freshman year, I knew I wanted to be a varsity player. I worked to stay in shape and to only further develop skills and game tactics that I would be able to show off on the field. Unfortunately, the unexpected pandemic hit and our season was canceled. Clearly devastated, I decided I was not going to let this hold me back. I continue to practice whenever I can and am always looking for someone to even just play catch with.
Academically, I am towards the top of my class. I was raised with the morals that education is always supposed to be your top priority. With that being said, I challenge myself both in the classroom and outside during my everyday life. I am on our schools's honor program and plan to maintain my high grades. With a 4.2 gpa, I try to challenge myself each year to be the best student athlete that I can be.
In addition to my academic success, I am proud to say I am a member of our schools student council where I help advise my peers in my class. In addition, I am a member of the hospitality club where I actively volunteer with others from my school to give back to the community and I am a member of the Spanish Club where I got to further my knowledge of the culture through speakers and food. Finally, I am an active member through my church where I get to help the less fortunate in my area. My community has shown me nothing but support over the years so I am honored to help out in any ways that I can.
Although my high school experience has been very short so far, I am proud of the positive impact that I have brought to my friends, families and educators of the school. I am a determined student who works hard in the classroom and on the field. My passion for lacrosse is what I feel sets me apart the most from other athletes who are also very talented. I know I can represent any university well playing lacrosse for them at the collegiate level. High school so far has shown me how to be a more responsible individual overall and how to work towards goals to be successful. I'm greatly blessed for any kind of consideration that I am shown.
Thank you,
