Being born blind was challenging, but by the time I was three I was working with a specialized doctor, and through daily physical therapy, unwavering commitment and an uncompromising belief that I could do it, I had 20/20 vision by the time I was 13. This same doctor played Lacrosse at Penn State and I decided to start playing too. But my hometown, El Paso, Texas had only one Lacrosse team out of all of the 39 high schools and that team was not at my school. So I took the same skill set and my passion for the sport, and I started my club team at my high school, the Chapin Lacrosse Club. As captain of the team I not only was able to get the permission required from the school, I secured equipment, recruited players and found coaches.
I came to Lacrosse a little later than most but the two years I spent in JROTC, earning the Supirior Cadet Award, enabled me to hone my leadership skills. The strategy, discipline and dedication I put into being able to see, have proven invaluable as a lacrosse player. I am passionate about being a midfielder because I have to be tough, smart, and strategic. I have learned you do whatever you have to do to succeed and in order to be the best, which for me is dedication, consistency, hard work, and daily practice, the same skill set that will transfer to any collegiate team. My play style is aggressive, fast and controlled. I love causing chaos on the filed while paying tribute to the creators of the game. I know that excellence is a habit in athletics, a habit in academics and a habit in life. I understand challenge more than most, and I understand that through dedication, hard work, the right mind set anything is possible.
My current GPA is 3.84, I just took the SAT exam and am studying to take it again along with the ACT. I envision my college years to be a personal growth period. My goal is to explore a double major in history and business that will position me well for a career in the military where I can serve my country in the most honorable way I know. On the field, I plan to be a dynamic player and a positive influence on the team. As I grow both physically and mentally throughout my college lacrosse career, I strive to be an asset to the team. Most importantly, as I always have, I will conduct myself with honor and respect on and off the field, knowing the way I carry myself reflects my team, my coaches and the school I attend. I am open to all options and look forward to finding the right college/university match.
