I found rowing in the summer of 2021 and that fall, as a sophomore in high school, I officially joined the Row New Jersey club team. Coxing for Row New Jersey is something that taught me many things and helped develop my leadership skills. I learned to be more determined and confident in the things I do, the value of clear communication, and the importance of trust. In my first season, my second race was Head of the Charles. This really was a challenge I never anticipated to handle so soon after joining, but I overcame the obstacles and persevered and although we did not finish very well, the experience I got from it was impactful to my coxing career. After the 2022 spring season, I was awarded Most Inspirational Novice recognizing my skills and contribution to the team for the year. As my second rowing year started, I moved up to the varsity level and in my return to the Head of the Charles in 2022, I used the confidence, communication, and leadership skills I developed to lead my V8+ boat to an 18th place finish securing an entry to the 2023 regatta. I continue to develop and use the values that I learned in my first year to motivate and inspire my crewmates to excel and give their best. These lessons also push me to do my best and one of the greatest accomplishments that came out of my commitment is achieving 10th in the nation in the MV4+ at the 2023 USRowing Youth National Championships.
The skills I learned and continue to learn from coxing and being part of a competitive team will help me throughout out my college experience and in life.
