I decided to give rowing a try last February after being committed to swimming for many years. From the very first time
being on the water, I was hooked. It was a chilly but sunny winter afternoon, wearing baggy sweatpants and a hoodie, I
got on a boat with nerve and excitement. Oars in hand, I felt tips of my nose, ears, and fingers burn by the chill of the wind
and my lungs and legs also burning with each pull. Listening to the beat of oarlocks clicking and the sound of the boat
cutting through the water, I found myself enjoying every painful stroke. I find both the physical and the mental demands
required to excel in rowing fulfilling and a unique feeling which I have never experienced from any other activity or task.
I look forward to each practice and race and hope to continue rowing in college.
