I started rowing in the fall of my freshman year and I’ve stuck with it ever since. I am currently a junior in the class of 2024 and I am now a varsity coxswain on my team. While I did row as a junior varsity rower during my freshman and sophomore year, I primarily was focused into more of a coxswain role because I want to cox at the collegiate level, and I knew my limits as a rower were limited because of my size and weight. I know that my strengths when coxing is my confidence, grit, and my ability to lead. When coxing, my goals may be to go fast and win medals, but ultimately my most important goal is to keep everyone in my boat safe. The safety of my teammates and myself is my number one priority regardless of the situation. I love coxing because it pushes me to become a better person who can lead, push people to their limits, and be the best coxswain I can be for myself and my team. Coxing collegiately is one of my biggest dreams because of the competitiveness, technicality, and because I enjoy coxing. Whether it be novices or veterans, I have a pretty adaptive coxing style which allows me to seamlessly fit into boats with new people. With patience, time, and guidance, I know I can definitely be a big help if I’m given that chance.
