Academics : My name is Jake Dickinson I am a studious and hardworking student athlete with a 3.13 GPA. Despite being diagnosed with Dyslexia and ADHD I work very hard to get good grades. I challenge myself in not only sports but also academics. At my school I have taken on the role of a student representative for my class in student council. I have earned many awards for my school in both athletics and character, I earned the christian athlete award for my school as a Junior as well as a christian character award my freshman year.
Club : I have played high level soccer in Arizona for almost my whole life through many different teams and programs. I started with a large club in Arizona called Legacy where I played my first year on the bottom team however not for long as I was quickly moved up to the top team. Which is where I played for several years until Legacy and a few other clubs were absorbed by RSL which is where I played for 2 more years. Eventually switching clubs to Arsenal for their ECNL program, I have played at the ECNL level for my whole high school career. For my club team I have traditionally played the defensive mid (6) however I do get rotated into the 8 and 10. I play this position because of my ability to cover the field, my aggression in the air, open field defending and tackling, along with my distribution. I also earned an award for my club as a sophomore, being “the most fit male for the whole club”. Recently I have also being playing wing-back for my ability to attack and work up and down the sidelines.
High school: I have played for a private christian school called Gilbert Christian for all four of my high school years. At Gilbert Christian I have been a starter and key player for varsity all four years. I have played all over the field for high school playing right back for my defensive ability, right forward for my ambidextrous shooting and finishing, however I mainly played center mid for my shooting, full speed attacking, and open field defending. At Gilbert Christian I have been the lead ball winner since my freshman year and have worked my way to become the lead goal scorer and lead assistant by my junior year. I have earned many awards for Gilbert Christian soccer listed below
---Freshman year - Rookie of the year ; 1st team all region midfield; and first team defensive
---Sophomore year - 1st team all region ; Regional player of the year
---Junior year (suffered a hernia after 4 games resulting in missing 3 games and playing 60% most of the year); First team all Region; Players player; Offensive player of the year ; Second in assists for the entire state; lead the entire State of AZ in in stats before my hernia
ODP: My freshman year I tried out and participated in ODP. On the ODP team I started 2 out of the four games on a 101 fever and played a tournament the same weekend for school soccer. My ODP team went all the way to the finals where we lost to California south. I was then invited to go on a trip to England with a few of the other ODP players and play against several of the European Club teams, we went undefeated and I came out the lead goalscorer with 4 goals in 4 games.
Fitness achievements: Ran a 5:00 minute mile as an eight grader; I hold the two mile record at my middle school at a 11:12 as an eight grader; I was the second place runner for my cross country team as a freshman; as a freshman was seconds off of the freshman school record held by a runner that went D1 for cross country; freshman year track I ran two meets anchoring the 4X8 with a PR of 2:09
Junior year: My Junior year was a very unlucky year not only because it was the Covid year but also because I was looking very good and ready to have my best year, however I was not able to do this because ECNL was not able to travel due to covid and had a very limited schedule, and my team got shut down because a player on our team got covid. Then the weekend that we got back I got a concussion and after I got cleared from that I got covid, however through all of these trials I kept working to improve my game. Then I got to high school season where I started my first four games performing extremely well, leading the entire state across all divisions 6A-2A in both points assists and was second place in goals. However in my fifth game I slipped and got a hernia. I had to miss the next three games but was able to return at about 60%, but I was not able to perform at nearly the same level that I was prior to the injury. I still received 1st team all region and was second in voting for Region Player of the Year, losing out by one vote to the winner of Region Player of the year and the same player was voted AZ Player of the Year.
