In the years that I have been playing goalkeeper, I have been extremely lucky to have been supported by some outstanding goalkeeper mentors. Several of my coaches have offered to write me references for this college application process, even before I asked them. I am truly fortunate to have this support and rapport with the coaches that I have worked with.
I have committed myself to improve every time I step on the field. I am comfortable with the ball at my feet as well as sweeping off my line when necessary. However, this does not take away from my shot stopping ability. This was evident as I captained my team to the 2018 State Cup Championship, letting in no goals in four group stage games and the final. I was awarded MVP for the tournament due to my role in this achievement. I have always had a strong mutual respect with all my coaches and teammates. This, along with my leadership skills and determination to win, is why I have been captain for my club team for the last four years under three different coaches. My abilities were also acknowledged when I was one of only two sophomores selected for my high school varsity team and established myself as a starter.
Academically, I have always pushed myself. This was recognized when I was invited for a high school/college level internship in the summer after 8th grade with the Children’s Cancer Technology Development Institute in Beaverton, Oregon (https://www.cc-tdi.org/). There, my project was to work on the rotary cell culture system developed by NASA. After this incredible experience I became especially interested in biology and chemistry. I continued to push myself in both of those subjects by taking numerous AP and honors level classes. This earned me entrance into National Honor Society and two academic letters. I hope to continue my soccer career by playing at the highest level for a collegiate team. I will also apply myself to my academics and will be an exceptional student-athlete addition for any program.
