I began playing soccer when I was 3 years old. My mother convinced the town club that 3 was close enough to 4… I was accepted as long as my father volunteered to coach. My father was a “baseball guy” but read some books and actually taught us some soccer. I also played baseball, skateboarded and participated in theater and excelled in all of those activities. Until, at summer camp at Mountain Mist in Meriden, CT when I was 8. That summer, I had 2 counselors that played soccer. Having these counselors made me more fully appreciate the game of soccer. So, I broke the news to my father one night that summer that I only wanted to play soccer. I explained that I had made my decision because if I was playing baseball or skateboarding or involved in theater then I wasn’t playing soccer. My dad took it better than I thought he would. I have been playing for Connecticut Football Club ever since. I have also played for CT ODP and was selected to represent Connecticut at the regional tournaments at Rider University.
Soccer has taught me how satisfying personal accomplishments can be. More importantly, soccer has taught me how satisfying team accomplishments are. Making it to the State Championship for the first time in my town’s history as a sophomore has been the highlight of my high school experience so far. Making it that far and coming up short has taught me an important lesson. That lesson is to make the most of my opportunities in all aspects of life. This lesson has caused me to take the game more seriously in terms of constantly working on my craft, whatever it may be. If you ask any of my coaches you will know that I am a hard worker who is as coachable as they come. I am willing to put everything on the line for the better of the team and this game has helped me mold into the person I aspire to become. Playing soccer in high school and starting on Varsity since my sophomore year has led me to focus on competing at the college level.
I am not only focused on playing at the college level. I am also focused on life beyond soccer. As an undergraduate, I intend on majoring in Political Science. Then, I intend on attending law school and pursuing a job as a public interest lawyer just like my dad. I am dedicated to public service.
