Dear Perspective Collage Coaches,
My name is Ryan Hocking and I would like to introduce myself not only as a player but as a perspective student at your school. I have been playing soccer since I was four and have played a plethora of different sports. I have played competitively in football, basketball, karate, and baseball. Through these experiences it has helped me grow as a player and become stronger as an athlete
. I began to get serious about soccer in 6th grade joining Foundation Soccer Club in New Britain, Ct. Once I joined I quickly became an impactful player starting at right midfield. After the first year I was moved to outside back and my team had won division 1 CJSA premier league. Going undefeated that season. Other highlights include winning the State Nutmeg Games and going undefeated in the tournament. The next year I converted to center back and was named captain of the team. Also during this year we switched to the Eastern Development Program which is a branch of the National Premier League. Despite struggling in this league as a team it helped me to become a more physical player. During this year we had won the Wallingford Twist Tournament going undefeated. Then I began to play high school soccer. In the beginning of the season I was the starting center back for freshman soccer but after a few games I emerged as a stand out and got moved up to the junior varsity level. During this year I became a starter for both teams. After the high school season I returned to club and converted to a defensive midfielder. This year we had participated in the NYSCPL. In which we had placed third and ended the season ranked 5th in the state.
As a player I would describe myself as a strong, physical defender who has a good touch on the ball. Playing in a Spanish system my whole life I have learned to pass the ball quick and to be creative on the ball. Due to my short stature I am underestimated however due to my creative skill and smart play I am able to get my self out of tough situations. My weaknesses include my size and that I am only average speed. Even though these can hinder me I can still keep up with the majority of players. These strengths out weigh the weakness and I believe these can help your team.
I am not only and athlete but also a student. Participating in honor level courses. Also getting honor level marks on my report card with a gpa freshmen year of 3.17. I am part of the community service club, cultural diversity club and the schools comedy band. I am very serious about academics and I am looking for a selective school.
Outside of school I participate in many events in the town. I volunteer as a counselor at the local summer camp for two years. Also I volunteer as an alter server at the local church. Finally I help out a the local soccer club as a referee. I hope that this has helped you learn a little bit about me.
Sincerely,
Ryan Hocking
