One of the greatest experiences I have had in recent years was the opportunity to train with La Paz Fútbol Club, a team in Colombia's third professional division. The intensity, tactical work, and sheer talent was amazing. During my time there, I really felt my game improve. However, it was the people that impacted me the most.
My home country, Colombia, has been stricken by violence in recent years. The goal of the team is to use the beautiful game as a way to bring together people affected by violence in order to establish security, alleviation, and peace. When you first see the team, you couldn't imagine what their pasts were like. You wouldn't believe the scarring past behind the bright smiles.
The overall joy from the team taught me how powerful soccer is. It inspired me continue to pursue the sport in order to bring happiness to my own life. I learned that with a ball at your feet, the true nature of humanity is brought to light: a happy, open, and loving one.
