Stephen Usina '21 Recruiting Profile

I started playing soccer when I was 4 years old after watching my older brother play. My coach was extremely impressed with my natural ability at such a young age for I was performing slide-tackles and maneuvering with the ball around players with ease and confidence.   I have continued playing thru local county leagues to competitive academy teams, including 3v3 and 7v7 tournaments, on up to high school.  I also volunteer with local soccer events as a line judge and field referee. 

Being awarded Athlete of the Year for Soccer and Defensive Player of the Year in my freshman year was a true highlight of my high school career thus far.  My sophomore year was more frustrating in that our team was not as successful, yet through many challenges we grew together individually and as a team.  This hard work became evident at the end of the season wherein we beat our cross-town rivals for the first time in 8 years with a score of 1 to 0.   A game shut out against a superb soccer program was the ultimate high for that season.  

I am seeking a college program that will allow me to continue to grow as a student-athlete.  I am confident in my skills as a goalkeeper that my talent will be a positive impact on your program.  As a three-sport athlete (soccer, lacrosse and football), I have the strength and mental ability, along with some humorous character, to become an outstanding student-athlete for you!
