I am a physically dominant 6’ 2” center back from Tampa, Florida who aspires to become a student athlete at a university which will challenge me both as a student and as an athlete.
Until recently both school and soccer had come very easy to me, neither requiring much effort or work to be successful. This changed when I entered high school. Classes suddenly became harder and I suffered some unfortunate soccer injuries.
For the first time in my life I had to question whether I had the strength of character and, perhaps more importantly, the drive necessary to overcome these obstacles. I learned a valuable lesson. I learned that one cannot reach one’s full potential without being challenged, even to the point of failing. I also learned that I truly love the game of soccer; a game that in many ways defines who I am.
I learned not only to work harder but also how to balance my rigorous academic schedule with my demanding soccer schedule. Today I am physically stronger than ever and playing great. I have also been able to maintain a 3.96 unweighted GPA while taking numerous Advance Placement and Honors classes.
Now that I know what it takes to succeed, I approach every obstacle, no matter how big or small, with the same fight and determination. Wherever I go to college I will be committed to leaving my mark as both a student and as an athlete and I believe this desire to succeed makes me a great student/athelete candidate.
