Hello, my name is Jay (John) Wolcott, and I am a student at Genoa High School in IL. Soccer is my passion; I have been playing since I was 4 years old. I would like to continue playing soccer competitively after high school at the collegiate level. I plan to focus my future career in sports medicine or sports management, ideally in a soccer setting. I have played club soccer for Shadow Premier FC for 8 years. Below are some of the things that make me a good candidate for the right college, soccer coach, and team.
Academics: School and learning are a high priority for me and I understand the importance of my education, maintaining good grades, and the impact that has on getting into college. I have been recognized as an All-Conference Student Athlete each year of high school for achieving a 3.5 or above GPA while also playing a varsity sport.
Leadership: I lead by example and look for ways to display leadership on and off the soccer field. I work with teammates to communicate and help with direction in games. I look for ways to motivate and help my teammates improve their game as well. I strive to always have a positive can-do attitude and be respectful in every aspect of life, including soccer. It is important to me to be a team player and find ways to work together with my teammates for the team to win.
Versatility: I can competently play several positions including forward, left & right wing, and attacking mid.
Development & Growth: To improve and grow as a soccer player I consistently practice and play with a high level of motivation, intensity, and work ethic. It was an honor to be awarded the 2022 Hustle Award by my High School Soccer teammates, who recognized me as the player on the team who always brings 100% effort to practice and games.
When it comes to practice and gameplay, I am coachable and listen to instructions, integrating what is being taught into my gameplay. I spend a great deal of time outside of practice working on fundamentals and my soccer IQ by watching professional soccer and game video.
Skills & Abilities: Quick first three steps/burst speed, strong technical skills include the ability to use both feet, head, & body to control, pass, and move the ball. I can shoot equally with both right and left foot.
