Hello,
My name is Kenan Kennedy and I am currently a junior at Garrett High School in Garrett, Indiana. I will be starting my second full season as a varsity player. I am the oldest of three kids and my family and faith is very important to me. My dad is a youth minister and my family is highly involved in his ministry. My love of soccer comes from him. As a child, he introduced me to the game and I fell in love immediately.
I enjoy playing soccer for Garrett High School and Rangers (my club team). On both teams, I typically play left outside mid and attacking forward. I can also play right outside mid and attacking mid. As an outside mid the philosophy for both teams is to play the ball wide and attack the end line to utilize my strong left footed cross into the box. With that strong left foot, I am also able to take shots outside of the eighteen. As an attacking forward, I am constantly moving from side to side looking for the through ball to free me into the box. I am also capable of receiving the ball with my back to the goal. I can then make a move around the defender to create a shot.
Furthermore, I see myself as an encourager in two ways on the soccer team. The first is spiritually. My personal goal for each season is to be an example for who Christ is and a teammate who teammates can come and confide in. The second way is physically by speaking words of encouragement, showing those who are struggling how to improve, and constantly trying to get those who are down to pick their heads up when they make a mistake.
Academically, I strive to do the best that I can. My parents constantly remind me that my grades come first. I also realize that there are more important things in life then playing soccer. God has blessed me with the ability to play soccer, but I also know that in order to serve Him, I need the right education. My goal is to finish high school with a 3.8 GPA. Currently, I am at a 3.4 GPA. The reason for that is because I tried an experimental learning academy my freshman year. Unfortunately, the learning process with the academy did not fit my learning style. I persevered through this year and not realize that I need to work harder to get to where my goal is the next few years.
At this point in my life, I hear God telling me that I should study youth ministry. I am not sure if that means, children’s ministry, youth ministry, or camp ministry. All I Know is I want to serve and would love to use soccer as a way to reach those who don’t know God.
Even though I love soccer, there are other things I love doing as well. Serving in the church with the church’s Jr Church program, Children’s Ministry, and VBS are important to me as well as serving the communion and helping with yard maintenance. I am also highly involved within the leadership of my dad youth group. I love being a leader with the school’s chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. These activities are important to me because they allow me to serve my fellow believers and it also allows me an opportunity to reach out to those who don’t know Christ yet. Besides all of that, I also enjoy playing just about every other sport. I enjoy wakeboarding and jet skiing at my grandparent’s cottage on the lake.
Ultimately, the reason why I play soccer is to honor God by using the gift that He has blessed me with. I see this as a tool to make an impact for His Kingdom. Everything else I do in life is meant to fulfill a single purpose… To honor God in everything I do. My life long goal is to serve him unconditionally, for the rest of my life.
Thank you for your time and God Bless.
Kenan Kennedy
