One of my favorite quotes is by Ralph Waldo Emerson - "The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be." That means you try hard to become the person you want to become rather than worrying about what others say about you. It also means you don't just sit back and let things come to you. I love soccer and I want to play this sport for as long as I can. I also love engineering, or at least what I know about it right now, and I want that to be part of who I become. Both goals require work and I'm willing to put in the effort to make those dreams a reality.
What makes me different than other recruits? I am willing to bet that everyone who strives to play in college works hard, trains, studies, and is all about the love of the game. Maybe the difference is mental toughness - the ability to fail (get scored on) and spring back into action. Maybe the difference is luck - the ability to train with amazing goalie coaches in my area. Maybe the difference is in the things I love outside of soccer, like music, animals and food. Regardless of what makes me different, I'm proud that those differences have brought me to this place.
I look forward to talking with you more about how my dreams and goals match those of your soccer program and university...
