Jasper Turner '23 Recruiting Profile

I have played football since I was just 5 years old, and throughout the highs (winning a European Soccer tournament in Germany) and the lows (being disregarded by Plymouth Argyle after a 6 month trial for being ‘too slow’), I have forged the most important life skills that summarise me as a person today: hard work- written on our changing room walls is the powerful quote ‘hard work beats talent; if talent doesn’t work hard’. Ambition- aiming high and not settling for anything less than the best version of myself: academically as well as in sport. Reflection- evaluating my performances with video and GPS technology gives me a conduit to constant improvement.

As a player, I am a rounded defensive midfielder, with experience playing at the academy level for Plymouth Argyle, and county level for Cornwall U16 in the UK (equivalent to representing  State). This year I am 16 so I am eligible to play in the FA youth cup for my team Truro City U18s, who made it to the 1^st round proper last year. I pride myself on my technical ability: since a young age I have always used both feet, and combining this with great vision from the ‘scanning’ which has been ingrained into me by my coaches has made me into a formidable, deep lying playmaker. On the other hand, I also enjoy what some would call the ‘dirty side’ of the game, breaking up play and winning the ball back for my team. Overall, I am a pragmatic, determined player who is willing to do whatever it takes to win.

Academically, I am also very proficient, with a  keen passion for business and maths, and a burning desire to continue my studies at a top US college where I believe I can and would flourish.  My predicted grades for GCSEs are as follows:

Overall, as you can see I am both academically and sportingly excellent, and I am determined to fulfill my potential by playing at the highest level possible .
