My name is Austin Wheeler and I primarily play center midfielder as a starter on the Varsity team at Anderson County High School in Kentucky. Last season, I was proud to see how my ball handling, fitness, and coordination skills are really coming together especially in handling balls out of the air. I routinely play complete games, and I pride myself in being able to stay strong to the finish.
I’m really excited to have finished my first season of U16 club soccer at LouCity Shelby (Louisville City FC Academy). I played primarily as a midfielder. I enjoyed learning from a new coach. We also had a lot of Spanish speaking players on the team, allowing me to put my bilingual English/Spanish skills to good use on the field. (My mom is from Puerto Rico, and we also lived in Peru for three years.) We maintained a decent record throughout the season and even went on the finish 2nd at the King's Hammer Crown Challenge in Cincinnati.
As a U12 recreational league player, I played defense (center back), which has stuck with me for a while and I feel makes me more well-rounded, especially on the attack.
I just finished my second year of high school. In my first year of high school, I played on both the JV and Varsity soccer teams, and my second year starting Varsity. In addition to club soccer, my winter training regimen includes cross-training—swimming three times a week, and weight training to continue to build muscle strength, fitness, and endurance. I am also on the high school track team.
I’m strong academically and I'm in advanced classes. I have a 3.36 unweighted -- 3.5 weighted -- GPA, and I am in AP and pre-AP classes. I scored an 1100 on the PSAT (320-1520 scale) in October 2023 (Fall of my tenth grade year).
My biggest asset is that I’m a team player who inspires team motivation and rapport. My coaches say my best attributes are determination and perseverance. I was really proud when my Varsity Head Coach most recently referred to me as the backbone of the team.
I believe in community service, and volunteer at the local food bank and at the Kentucky Historical Society.
Please check back and see me develop as a player.
