Why Do I Want to Go to College?
By: Kevin LeCompte, Jr. Junior at Crescent City Christian School
I have always heard growing up, that college is important. My mom has always told me that getting a college degree is so important for my life. As I'm about to graduate high school, I have been thinking about why I want to go to college and why college is so important. College will cost me money and take a lot of my time, so it is important that I have a reason as to why I want to go to college. College will not be easy, that is a fact. Going from a classroom of 20 students to going to lecture with about 500 students will be new to me. Having the duties of keeping up with my homework and educating myself outside the lecture are going to be my responsibilities. When I feel like college is getting too much, it is going to be important for me to remember why I wanted to go to college.
In college, I want to study Criminal Justice. In my opinion, Criminal Justice is one of the best degrees to major in. There are so many different paths that I can take with a Criminal Justice degree. I plan to become a Police Officer after college, but let's say something happens and that does not work out. The good news is my criminal justice degree opens up so many directions for me to go. Paralegal, Judicial Assistant, Private Investigator, Forensic Accountant, Social Worker, and many others are all different jobs that I can pursue with my degree.
After college, I plan to become a Police Officer. Since I was 6 years old, I have always wanted to become a Police Officer. I have always desired to make a meaningful impact in my community and now that I'm growing up, I don't want to be stuck in a chair or a cubicle. I want to serve my community and be able to have an impact on my community. Being a police officer is not about yourself, it's about serving others and keeping people safe and that's one thing I want to do. This community has shaped me into the person that I am today and now it's my turn and my desire to give back to the community and protect the people of my community.
