Hello College Soccer Coaches,
My name is Alex Caliri. I live in Lexington MA, and attend Lexington High School (LHS). I have been playing soccer since I was 6 years old. I am a soccer goalkeeper at heart. I have over 5 years of experience at the position training year round with many different and high level coaches, many who are goalkeeper coaches at different colleges. In my high school career I have played on both the LHS Junior Varsity and LHS Freshman Teams. In my Freshman year I received the MVP award which has never been given to the goalkeeper for the past 10 years. I have also played on GPS Milan Boston and New England Rush club teams and I had a great time playing, had a fantastic season and a great performance.
Now here's a little bit about my physicality and athleticism. I am 5'10" and 140 lbs. I may not be the tallest goalkeeper, but I am among the fastest and have an outstanding jump height. Most of my coaches have commented on my incredible speed and my ability to reach high balls that should be nowhere within my reach. I am a strong all around goalkeeper with great, strong hands. I have a love for high balls/crosses, shot stopping and I'm very aggressive defending against fast breaks. I am not afraid to jump in the way of a 6' guy with a powerhouse of a shot. I am also a good commander of my team on the field.
On the academic side I am looking for a college that has a strong reputation, business/engineering program, alongside a strong athletics program. I love pushing myself and strive to be the best and thus I want a college that is going to challenge me and push me to be even better. I plan on going to graduate school after my 4 years of undergrad. I live in New England but I am looking for a college from the Northeast region down to the Carolina's.
My academic life has been great so far, I have a 3.1 unweighted GPA with a 3.6 weighted GPA. I also scored a 1050/1520 on my PSAT. I am currently taking Honors Math 4 and AP Chemistry and within the next few years at Lexington High School, I plan on taking challenging courses with the year to come. I am currently and have been an honor roll student at Lexington High School. I find that without a challenge academically, school becomes boring and I love taking hard classes because it makes me think and work hard.
At Lexington High School I also play Lacrosse during the Spring, which is my second sport. I enjoy playing the sport and it further pushes my athleticism. In Lacrosse I am an attackmen/midfielder and one of the fastest most agile players on the team. During my Freshman year I started both Freshman and Junior Varsity Lacrosse team and was invited to play with the varsity lacrosse team during a couple of the practices. I averaged around 2-3 goals a game and had a personal record of scoring 6 goals and 3 assists in one of our games. I had fun during the season and it was a joy participating in the Lacrosse program.
Some other things about myself are that I am a Black Belt in Uechi-Ryu Karate. I believe that my drive, aspirations to be the best and my passion for the sport have pushed me the level that I am at today. Being in a position of leadership on the field has led to me to a better teammate, a better player, and even better friend. I am a strong believer in a good work ethic and that if you put in the hard work, you can achieve your goals.
Thank you for reading my personal statement as it is very long and I wish you would consider and contact me to be a part of your Athletics and College program.
Sincerely,
Alex Caliri
