Hello, my name is Daniel Checkoway and I am a 16-year-old sophomore at Mansfield High school in MA. I'm on the Varsity soccer team. I have been playing soccer since I was 4 years old, and since then I have grown a love and passion for the sport. I would always watch the Premier League games and wanted to emulate everything they could do. This always drove me to play better and push myself to try and reach that level one day. I have played 11 years of travel and 6 years of club soccer. Last year I played my first year of high school level soccer on the freshman team at Mansfield High, where I was one of four captains selected by our coach. Being selected as one of the captains was a nice confidence booster for me because over the years I would try to take a leadership role on the field as well as off. I have typically played in the defensive position, but had the opportunity to move into defensive CDM for high school. We finished our freshman season with a solid 15-3-1 record. I recorded 2 goals and 19 assists in our 19 games played. When the season ended I realized that soccer was my passion and that I want to pursue it after high school if I have the opportunity to do so. My coach told me that one of my greatest attributes is that I can play multiple positions and play them well. For Club soccer, I have played both wing-back and midfield positions. I feel that playing soccer has also helped me to become the person I am today. Soccer has brought me leadership, communication and problem solving skills and stronger bonds with the people around me. I have always had an eye for the beautiful game and I tend to see things on the soccer field that others may not always notice. I have used this skill to my advantage to help elevate my play on the soccer field.
