I am a student-athlete who wants to continue his love for the game of soccer past the high school level. In college, I want to explore all my academic options and find a passion I can pursue professionally. I am seeking a college that will provide me with the resources and support I need for a successful academic and athletic journey through college.
I have been playing soccer since I was four years old, and played in many, many positions over the years. I remember playing in goal, at the back, in the middle, and up top. I have played practically every position there is. However, my favorite position is the one I currently play at Northfield Mount Hermon: midfield. I believe that my background in playing all these positions gives me the versatility to be a valuable asset to your team. Also, I have had international experience playing at the highest youth level in Hong Kong alongside the many youth tournaments across Asia like in Thailand and Singapore. I believe that this experience improves my understanding and ability to play the game.
I remember one game when I started on the bench and as soon as I came on the field, the coach said, “Here comes the magic man.”
Throughout my high school career, there have been many subjects that intrigued me. Classes like my sophomore World Literature class excited me because of the books that were chosen, such as Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson and Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Then, in the spring of my sophomore year, I was surprised by my interest in my Chemistry class. The way that it was taught got me curious about all things chemistry-related. As the term went on, I was even able to start helping other students understand the material. Now, this year in my junior year, I am taking a course in BioEthics, a combination between Biology and Ethics. We delve deeply into medical experiments and the ethics behind them. We touch on topics that might be considered controversial. I look forward to college as a place to extend my interests and explore new ones.
