I have been playing soccer since age five and can't imagine myself not continuing to play in college. I absolutely love to play soccer, watch soccer, read about soccer, and have made my most meaningful friendships through soccer. I'm also an alpine ski racer and committed to that sport for six months of the year, training and racing 70+ days each season for both my high school and club team in Maine. I believe my passion for soccer while also being a highly successful two sport student athlete is what sets me apart from other candidates.
Maintaining a 4.4 QPA as a student athlete is not easy. I’m accustomed to making my education a priority while attending daily soccer practices, playing night games home and away, managing fitness and recovery, nursing injuries, and then traveling every weekend and holiday to train for ski racing. I know how to succeed as a student athlete.
In college I want to pursue a business degree concentrating on marketing, entrepreneurship, investing and data analytics. I’m looking for a school with a strong business program that allows me to grow as a student and as an athlete, preparing me for my future career. I’m looking for a small school where I’m not just a number and my professors are vested in my success. I’m hoping to continue to compete at soccer and ski racing at the collegiate level to expand my life experience, develop lifelong friendships and contribute to each team’s success.
For the past 12 years I have been playing soccer with my local club where my father has been either my head coach or assistant coach. I was first exposed to soccer through him. During this time I've had the experience of being the youngest and most in-experience player on the team, trying to earn playing time and the respect of my teammates. I’ve also experienced being a leader as one of the strongest players on the team and managing all the pressure that comes with this position. I believe this is one of the greatest aspects of playing any sport. Hopefully, if you’re lucky, you get to live at either end of the social spectrum which gives you great perspective. I believe sports are a metaphor for life teaching you how to overcome challenges while remaining a humble and compassionate leader once you succeed.
Playing soccer in high school was no different. During my last four years I’ve experienced all the challenges presented from COVID: not knowing if we’d have a season, worrying about catching COVID and having my season cut short, playing modified schedules with no postseason, having to play soccer while wearing a mask, and then thoroughly appreciating the chance to just have a ‘normal’ soccer season.
This perspective I have gained over my soccer career has helped me understand that my role on any team is to make the team better. For my sophomore year, this meant practicing with varsity while playing JV and gaining valuable minutes on the field with teammates. During my junior year this meant starting varsity but playing in my second or third choice position because this was best for the team at the time. Then, during my senior year, maximizing my opportunity by contributing 14 points in 16 games and earning first team league all-star honors.
