At a young age, my parents started me off in team sports like baseball, basketball, and soccer. From the beginning, it was apparent that I was a struggling athlete due to my growing patterns, lack of natural ability, and not much of a desire to work on my own at sports. Because of this, I was cut from a lot of different teams, and criticized by classmates who were born with more natural talent. One day, a certain team I was cut from really affected me; at that moment, something snapped... I wasn't the same person. I found a new drive that caused me to want to succeed at sports more than anything. I picked soccer as my main sport and ran with it; I knew I would have to work twice as hard as everyone else since I was not as naturally athletic or skilled as other kids. After hours upon hours of hard work, I was able to become equal with the people I played with.
What helped me get the true edge over other players and the ability to eventually surpass them was definitely the people who supported me and helped me get better. The first of which were two coaches I have had. My coaches, one for high school and one for club, both took me under their wing and encouraged me so much. I had nothing to impress them with except for my a drive and a chip on my shoulder, but they helped me anyway. Although these coaches did so much for me, my parents definitely had the largest impact on my sports career. Through their commitment, encouragement, and advice, I am the player that I am today, and Lord willing will continue to work hard daily to become better each day.
While playing soccer in college is a dream of mine, it is not exactly my top priority. I aspire to be a doctor, specifically in the pediatric field. I enjoy volunteering/working with kids, and just helping people. My main hope is that the college I attend will prepare me well for my chosen career path, and that it will help me make a difference by learning how to better help others. I believe that helping others is a necessity, because God has done so much for me. This is one of the best ways we can honor God, by doing things for others. These aspects are the biggest things I could look for in any college.
