Matthew Moran '19 Recruiting Profile

I am a 6"2 center back from Grosse Pointe Park, MI and currently a junior at Grosse Pointe South High School. I have been a member of South's varsity soccer team and have started every varsity game since my freshman year. I was one of the captains this past year and will again be a captain my senior year.  I have also played club soccer since age 6. I currently play for Vardar ECNL 01. Prior to Vardar, I played for three years for AC Milan Detroit for which I was team captain for two years. While I am a soccer player first and foremost, I also played basketball for Grosse Pointe South during my freshman and sophomore years and was one of the captains both years. Although I made varsity basketball this year, I decided to take the year off from the sport to focus on my academics and soccer.

I am interested in a college at which I can find a balance between academics and the field. I am most interested in pursuing an opportunity to play soccer at a school with an outstanding academic reputation. I am willing to attend any school which is the right fit for me, regardless of its location.

While an honor student taking honors and AP courses at a top Michigan high school, I am also well rounded in that I am a member of the National Honor Society, the Latin and Varsity clubs and I volunteer with organizations such as TOPSoccer, Friends of the Poor Walk and St. Vincent DePaul.  

As a player, I bring leadership, athleticism, size and a strong field vision to the back line. Also, while my primary position is center back, I am a versatile player and have played other positions including center midfield.
