One year ago I would never believe that I could have a chance to go to college to play soccer. My junior year was my first year ever playing soccer. I’d been a football player my whole life. I played wide receiver and was a key player and captain of every team I was on. However, when I found a love for my schools broadcasting program I quit football to broadcast the games. My first year of soccer was my schools first year in having a boys soccer team in five years. I had no interest in playing, but when the coach pulled me out of class to get me to play I thought I would give it a try. Right away my coach saw great things in me. My work ethic, my leadership, and my ability to adapt. I started off as a natural. The years of being a wide receiver really helped. Our team however, not so much. We only had eleven guys to start out the year. Almost every game we played with eleven guys or less. Out of the twelve guys we finished the year with, it was seven guys’ first year. My coach didn’t play me at the start of the season at keeper due to my skills on the field. I would mainly go in the game at keeper in the second half when we were losing 6-0. In the nine games I went in, I was able to get 89 saves vs 32 goals. Yes that is a lot of goals, but I averaged about 25 shots a game. The most shots I saw in a game was 57. Yes it was my first year playing, yes my team we 0-13, however I am a fast learner with a great work ethic and is willing to try anything. My chances are slim but I have the size, the mentality, and the skills, to be a great addition to any team at the college level. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely, Owen Leitelt
